1st Annual Golf for Compassion: A Success!
Jun 2013 03

Compassion Corps is proud to announce that our first-ever golf event fundraising initiative, Golf for Compassion, was a huge success! The event was held to benefit the overall work of Compassion Corps so that we can continue in our mission of alleviating suffering and advancing development in northern Africa. The funds raised will contribute to enabling us to help our African partners to sustain current educational, medical and developmental projects, all of which require hundreds of hours of volunteer work and hundreds of thousands of dollars.

This first-class event and major fundraising initiative was held at the beautiful, championship-caliber Penn Oaks Golf Club in West Chester, PA. We were thrilled that 72 golfers had registered in advance for the event, and although the afternoon was a little rainy, almost all of them came out to support the cause. After registration, our golfers enjoyed lunch under the covered veranda before they made their way out to the course. Thankfully, the rain slowed down and after a successful round, we announced the afternoon’s winning teams! Congratulations to:

  • First Place: Justin Felipe, Robert Felipe, Robert Felipe Jr., Vincent Felipe
  • Second Place: Brian Dennstaedt, Graham Thorpe, Lee Sitkowski, Jason Wilt
  • Third Place: Dave Miner, Judy Curtis, Reed Curtis, Bob Neef

Winners received prizes and as the golfers cleaned up and came into the banquet hall to begin enjoying hors d’oeuvres, additional banquet guests came flooding in to join us for the evening’s events. The nearly 200 attendees to the evening banquet, which we called Cup of Compassion, were entertained with live music from Steppin’ Razor while they browsed the assortment of beautiful handcrafts in the African marketplace and bid on a wide variety of items in the Silent Auction. Then the 3-entree buffet dinner was served and everyone had the opportunity to learn more about the mission and work of Compassion Corps through the evening program. Staff members spoke about their experiences with the organization, shared details about specific projects and encouraged the crowd to find a way to get involved.

As our MC, Jacqui Hickey, wrapped up the evening’s festivities, friends mingled and auction item winners came by to claim their goods. Everyone agreed that two special highlights of the evening included the showing of our brand new Compassion Corps promotional video (available now here on the website) and the unveiling of our exciting new social enterprise – Compassion Corps’ own coffee brand, Cup of Compassion!

If you weren’t able to be with us for this year’s Golf for Compassion, keep an eye out for info on next year’s 2nd annual event and plan to save the date: Monday, April 21st, 2014! You’ll be in for nothing short of a great time…and all for a great cause.

The Compassion Corps staff and board would like to also say one more huge THANK YOU to our wonderful event sponsors and auction donors!
