If you follow Compassion Corps’ work and enjoy staying involved throughout the year, then you’ll be glad to know that you’re invited to join us for two fun, upcoming fundraiser events. The first is the 3rd annual fall run, The Orphan Day 5k, and the second is a Philadelphia Boys’ Choir Christmas Concert in early December.
If you were involved with our 2011 or 2012 5k2Kare4Kids events, you know that this fun, fall activity is a guaranteed good time for all! This year, the event is slightly rebranded to reflect our partnership with local churches that observe Orphan Sunday. Together, we can raise the awareness and funds that will truly make a difference for these kids.
The idea for this event was originally sparked a few years back when we decided to do a specific fundraiser just to benefit some of the projects we do for children. Compassion Corps works with kids in a variety of circumstances. We support orphanages, run a student sponsorship program, build classrooms and provide medical care for children with illnesses and disabilities. This annual 5K event has contributed financially to these existing projects and even allowed us to start some new ones. This year, the Orphan Day 5k will specifically aim to raise funds for student sponsorships for orphans in Liberia and Uganda.
And once again, this year’s 5k promises to be a truly enjoyable and unique occasion as we are planning to expand our activities to create more of a “family day” feel! Plan to join us on November 2nd at Ridley Creek State Park in Media, PA, to participate. Come out on your own with a competitive goal of completing the 5K run in a particular target time or bring the whole family to play games, walk/jog the run casually, and enjoy lunch together! Prizes will be awarded to the fastest runners in each age range! Registration will begin at 9am and we’ll start the run/walk at 10am. Simply save the date on your calendar and register today. We can’t wait to see you there!
We know it seems early to be thinking about Christmas already, but we also know that everyone’s December schedules start to fill up very quickly! We’d like to invite you to save the date of December 1st at 6pm to come out to Brandywine Valley Baptist Church in Wilmington and get the season started right with an inspiring vocal performance by the Philadelphia Boys’ Choir. The proceeds of the event will go toward helping to build a new home for 62 orphans and their caregivers whose home is being torn down due to road construction in White Plains, Liberia.
This is a fantastic opportunity to make plans with family to enjoy some seasonal entertainment…and to do so for a great cause! Tickets will go on sale soon and as space is expected to fill up quickly, we encourage you to get this on your calendar today and make plans to come. It will be a beautiful event that will surely put you in the Christmas spirit. Come join Compassion Corps in celebrating the holiday and in raising critical funds that will help us bring joy to precious orphaned children in Liberia.
